A group known as the Concerned Patriots Association (CPA), affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is against the formation of a fact-finding committee to unravel the party's huge electoral defeat in the 2024 polls.
Following the party's unprecedented defeat, the NPP National Chairman, Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim, at a media encounter, proposed the urgent need to establish a Review Committee to investigate the excruciating defeat.
In a sharp rebuttal, the President of the Concerned Patriots Association, Alhaji Abubakari DaaNaa, kicked against the proposal in an interview and advocated for a complete overhaul of the NPP leadership at all levels.
He attributed the party's defeat to the arrogance of power exhibited with impunity by the majority of Nana Addo's appointees, the neglect of the grassroots base, and the 'bootlickers' hijacking of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's 2024 campaign trail.
He praised the former NPP General Secretary, Engineer Kwabena Agyapong, for his non-negotiable loyalty to the party and advised that he should lead a nationwide genuine reconciliation crusade.
According to Alhaji DaaNaa, Kwabena Agyapong's involvement in the NPP's 2024 campaigns inspired some disillusioned party members to vote for Dr. Bawumia and the minority Members of Parliament who retained their seats.
He insisted that Kwabena Agyapong's last-minute interviews in the mass media space served as a game changer; otherwise, the voter apathy would have been dire.
NDC's big win
The former President John Dramani Mahama-led NDC overwhelmingly defeated the NPP in the 2024 polls.
The National Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensah (Mrs.), on Monday, December 9, 2024, officially declared John Mahama as the President-elect, with 6,328,397 votes cast, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast.
The NDC, in a landslide, won a parliamentary majority with over 180 seats, including some traditional constituencies previously held by the NPP.
The NPP's defeated presidential hopeful, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, graciously conceded defeat and called for national cohesion.
