Allotey Jacobs has asked the Government of Ghana to fix the energy challenges in the country and stop their blame games.
According to him, the ruling NPP government has no excuse to give Ghanaians because they were voted into power to address the energy issues.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Allotey Jacobs noted that the NPP portrayed the previous Mahama government as incompetent and so managed to win the sympathy of the citizenry when they promised to end the energy crises.
He explained that former President John Dramani Mahama and his government laid a strong foundation for the NPP to easily resolve the power challenges.
“President Mahama said I will fix it. I will make sure that dumsor comes to an end. Truly, for ten (10) good months; uninterrupted power, we’ve given you enough power generation. Within the four years of Mahama’s government, we built 1436 megawatts of power generation. So, there’s no excuse for the NPP government to allow dumsor to come back.”
To him, the government is failing to give a true account of the energy situation that has resurfaced after several months of uninterrupted power supply.
“This is the true incompetence. That we’ve given you 1436 megawatts of power and you’re to buy fuel to generate the power too has become an issue . . . You’re refusing to fuel Ameri. You’re refusing to fuel KarPower. Why? Why are you doing that? Do you mean that you can’t use the daily revenue you’re collecting to buy fuel? Can’t you use it to buy gas and light crude?” he questioned.
Allotey Jacobs wants the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko to stop blaming the recurrence of the crises confronting the sector on the previous government.
He says the government should find a lasting solution to the problem because that's why they were voted into power.
