The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Cynthia Morrison says there must be “something wrong” with the father who inflicted several deep open wounds on three-year-old son with a wire and cane.

The father, who is currently in the grips of the police in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, where the abuse happened, vented his spleen on the little boy for being stubborn, wetting his bed and also being a financial burden on him, reported Class91.3FM’s regional correspondent Maxwell Attah on Tuesday.

Apart from his back, which is covered with deep open sores, the little boy also suffered injuries on other parts of his body from the merciless beatings at the hands of his father.

Reacting to this development on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Wednesday, 13 May 2020, Ms Morrison who condemned the abuse noted that she believes all is not well with the father.

She told show host Benjamin Akakpo that: “I think for this man there is something wrong with him. I listened to the wife this morning and she tells the whole world he’s been abusing her by beating her and that’s why she left so why do you leave this little boy to a man who is that violent, a man who can beat his own mother and bite the mother? If you bite, then there’s something wrong with you.”

Ms Morrison noted that some parents need counselling because in her view, a lot of them vent their frustrations, problems and poverty on children - a situation she described as “sad.”

The father is currently in the custody of the Manhyia Divisional Police.
