'They are working with the NDC' - Richard Ahiagbah shoots down apology from media house

The Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah, has dismissed an apology issued by an Accra-based media house to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over a contentious social media post concerning nurses' trainee allowances.

Earlier, the 'Media General Group' publicly retracted the post and offered an apology on X, emphasising their commitment to journalistic values.

“We refer to a publication by satirist ‘Tilapia da Cartoonist’ on the issue of nurses trainees allowances. We retract and apologize for the depiction of the NPP flagbearer in the said publication or any related unsavory comments made on any of our platforms in recent times.

“As a responsible media organization, we value fairness, accuracy, and respect in our reporting and content creation,” the apology read.

However, Ahiagbah also responded on social media, criticising the apology.

He asserted that the media house's apology lacked sincerity and accused them of engaging in propaganda and being aligned with the opposition NDC.

"The apology from Media General's management does not seem sincere. The management approved the publication on June 19, 2024, knowing that it was false, but they went ahead and published it to promote a known NDC propaganda about the Vice President. It is clear that they are working together, and we can see it," the post read.
