The Deputy Chair of Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare, has responded to calls for the removal of the current chairperson of the Commission and her deputies.

According to Dr. Asare, individuals demanding the removal of Madam Jean Mensa and her deputies are not in tune with the deliverables given by the current leadership in terms of transparency and cost-saving, among others.

"If anyone is calling for the removal of someone at the EC, it means they don't fully understand the work that has been done. The EC has been transparent, cost-efficient, and has done a lot for the country," he told the media at a press conference on Monday, December 24, 2024.

He praised the EC's commitment to the ideals of transparency and cost-effectiveness while underscoring the EC's delivery of free and fair elections.

"There are laws in this country, and since the Commission took over in 2018, there have been numerous observers, both domestic and international. The results are publicly available, and in terms of quality, Ghana is among the best in Africa when it comes to elections," he noted.

On the Commission's decision to re-collate the results for some disputed constituencies in the 2024 general elections, which has generated controversy, the deputy chair said the move was in tandem with law and precedent.

He urged individuals or groups aggrieved by the Commission's decisions to seek redress from the law courts.

His remarks were made amid controversy over the re-collation of parliamentary election results in constituencies such as Ahafo Ano North, Techiman South, Ahafo Ano South West, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Obuasi East, Okaikwei Central, and Tema Central.

These results were re-collated and declared in favour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), while the results for Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya were suspended by the Electoral Commission (EC).
