The Director of Communications for the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has mocked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over their resolve to curtail the menace of illegal mining in the country.

He noted that the current government, in his view fibbed their way into power, adding that they have no plans to fight galamsey

In a post on his official Facebook page, Miracles Aboagye stated that the NDC and its officials wanted power just to exploit the galamsey situation to their benefit.

He described the situation as saddening and worrying, adding that the country has been handed to deceitful persons.

“They have no plan for the galamsey fight. They just lied their way through to power, only to hand our land over to their party executives to destroy our water bodies even more. It’s sad but that’s our reality” he said.

The government, since assuming power on January 7 has initiated a number of interventions to curb the galamsey menace.

However, the recruitment and training of some 400 river guards for the galamsey fight has been shot down by critics who questioned the effectiveness of the new program.
