Thieves raid Bolga Health Insurance Secretariat.

Bolgatanga, July 20, GNA - The take-off of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Bolgatanga Municipality could suffer a temporary setback following a raid on the offices of the Scheme in Bolgatanga on July 9, 2005 by unknown burglars who made away with equipment estimated at several millions of cedis.

Chief Inspector of Police Thomas Agbanyo, Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told newsmen in Bolgatanga on Wednesday that items stolen included a photocopier, telephone receivers, computer accessories, a laser jet printer and one desk jet printer.

He said a watchman at the NHIS office, Alonson Asamada, and a colleague watchman on duty at the Judicial Services Department noticed at about 03.30 hours on July 9 that the security light at the back of the office building had gone off, so the two watchmen went to the spot to appraise the situation.

"To their dismay they saw that the burglar proof and mosquito net on the window had been cut open to create an entrance," he said. The Scheme's Managers, Mr Roger Ayime and Mr. Dominic Akulbire, were immediately notified about the theft, and they in turn reported the case to the Bolgatanga police.

Chief Inspector Agbanyo indicated that the police had lifted some fingerprints from louver blades and other surfaces on the scene and were conducting investigations into the crime.

He called on the general public to be on the look out for any such items that might be put on sale on the market and to promptly report any suspicious characters to the police.
