Gary Nimako, Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has disclosed the position of Attorney-General Godfred Dame on the leaked audio in which the A-G is heard discussing an ongoing trial with an accused person.

The tape recorded by Richard Jakpa (the third accused in the ambulance trial case) was first released weeks back by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

It is currently the subject of an application before the High Court, with lawyers for Jakpa and his co-accused Ato Forson, seeking to have the tape admitted as evidence.

Gary Nimako during an appearance on Joy News' Newsfile programme (June 8, 2024) said Dame had questioned the duration of the tape currently in circulation.

"My conference with the A-G, subsequent to the leakage of this particular tape, he said 'look Gary, this is not the full tape, because the discussion even started with the issue of me going for international arbitration and me going for an adjournment.'

"All that portion of the discussion has been taken away," Gary told Newsfile host Samson Anyenini stressing that the tape in no way lessened the charges the two accused are facing.

The NPP during a press conference stressed a similar position that the tape among others had been spliced together, it was pieced and doctored.

A-G Dame, meanwhile, refused a strong appeal by the trial judge to recuse himself from the case because of the contents of the tape. The court is set to sit today for a ruling on the admissibility of the tape into evidence.
