Thomas Ampem Nyarko retained as Asuogyaman MP

The incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for the Asuogyaman Constituency, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko has been retained as the MP for the third consecutive time.

After the polls on Saturday, December 7, the constituency Returning Officer declared Hon. Ampem as MP-elect after he secured 26,085 votes representing 54.66% of the total valid votes cast.

His closest contender, Pius Enam Hadzide of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority (NYA) also polled a total of 21,290 of the valid votes representing 44.61%.

The total number of votes cast was 47723, out of which 348 ballots were rejected.

In the presidential election, former president John Dramani Mahama of the NDC bagged 28,413 votes while Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP obtained 17,863 of the total valid votes cast.

During his victory speech, Hon Ampem disclosed that even as an opposition MP, he has brought a lot of developmental projects in the Constituency and he will push for more of such projects as his party has won the general election.

“I have brought a lot of developments as an opposition MP. I will do even more as we have won the general election.”

He further disclosed that money cannot buy the people of Asuogyaman, but with hard work, they will reward you with more terms.

He expressed gratitude to his constituents, who were waiting for hours for the declaration, for their support. He also thanked his Constituency executives for their hard work in securing this victory.
