Accra, Oct 4, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) trinity of Johns, Former President Jerry John Rawlings, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and Mr John Dramani Mahama on Saturday radiated unity at the launch of the party's Election 2008 manifesto. Contrary to perception of a strained relationship between the Flag bearer and his running mate as against the Former President, the three appeared on the same platform in a cheerful mood to erase that perception.
Members of the inner circles of the party said there was no such situation and that there was no forum at which the three personalities could not appear together in public.
Mr Alex Segbefia, NDC Campaign Coordinator, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) dismissed the suggestion that, the three top men of the party had not been seen in the public together for a long time meaning a division in the party. He said, apart from the launch of the party's campaign in May where Former President Rawlings was absent there was no other opportunity for the three to appear in the public jointly. Mr Segbefia said the manifesto launch presented a forum for the three to demonstrate that, "the party is now more focussed and more united than ever before."
He said each of the three was engaged in different campaign tours in different parts of the country as a strategic approach to winning more votes for the NDC.
Mr. Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader in Parliament said the four thematic areas of the manifesto as presented by various leading members of the party showed how committed the party was to ensure performance in unison to achieve a common purpose in building a strong and united nation.
Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Organiser of the Party said with the launch of the manifesto the party was now poised to engage in a healthy campaign with its opponents. He said the coming together of the three leaders had sent shivers down the spines of their opponents.
