Three Policemen wounded by wee smokers

Madina, Jan. 25, GNA - A gang of wee smokers on Sunday attacked a group of policemen attached to the National Security, now being accommodated at the REDCO flats near Madina-Zongo.

Constable John Henry Mofat and Constable Nashiru Tanko sustained knife wounds on their hands while Constable Joseph Amoako sustained a minor wound on his forehead when his head was hit with a piece of stone.

A source at the Madina Police Station told the Ghana News Agency that the injured policemen reported that one of the wee smokers whose name was given as Jimmy Kata deliberately squatted in front of the building housing the policemen and started smoking Indian hemp.

The source said the policemen made an attempt to arrest him but Jimmy Kata drew a sharp two-edged dagger to threaten the policemen. According to the source when the policemen attempted to arrest him, a gang of ten "macho" wee smokers matched on them, and struggled to rescue their friend but that proved futile.

The source said the policemen overpowered Jimmy Kata, seized his dagger and handed him over to the Madina Police for further interrogation. The Madina Police has issued the injured policemen with a hospital chits to receive treatment at the Police Hospital in Accra, the sources added.
