Three dead in renewed chieftaincy dispute at Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo

Temaa (N/R), March 9, GNA - Three persons are confirmed dead at Temaa in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District, in a renewed chieftaincy conflict on Sunday. The conflict was between two Konkomba rival clans- the Binyami clan of Biarug and Biyambo clan of Temaa.

The dead were; Mumuni Sayibu 20, Adams Sayibu 19 and Yenbi Blatam 25. A total of 101 houses have been burnt down in the area. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Angwunbutoge Awuni who visited the area said the conflict came about as a result of the enskinment of one Taadee Dasaa by the Naayiri Mohammed Bohagu Shirigu as the chief of Biarug.

He said the dissenting Biyambo clan attacked the Biarug community, which was building a palace for their new chief.

ACP Awuni said about 70 police and military personnel were on the ground maintaining peace and order.

In an interaction with the two factions, ACP Awuni advised them to give peace a chance because government had spent a lot of money maintaining order in the area. He asked the warring factions to engage in fruitful ventures such as the pursuit of education instead of engaging in fighting. ACP Awuni also advised the security personnel on the ground to be of good behaviour and not to do anything that would tarnish the image of their profession.
