Three people were on Tuesday granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime, forgery of judicial and official document and possession of means of forgery.
Daniel Kwabena Okyere, a rubber stamp maker; Eric Hode, a construction worker and Jones Thompson, a printer, were granted bail of GH?10,000.00 each.
They are also to report to the investigator at Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) every Tuesday and Friday at 1000 hours.
Daniel and Eric were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and possession of means of forgery but they both pleaded not guilty, while Jones pleaded not guilty on the charges of conspiracy to commit crime and forgery of judicial and official document.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Aidan Dery told the Court that on July 29, based on information that a syndicate was printing fake certificates in a shop located at Accra Newtown, the officers of EOCO went on a swoop, where Daniel and Eric were arrested.
He said a search conducted in the shop lead to the discovery of an envelope containing two University of Cape Coast (UCC) and two National Board for Professional and Technical Examination Certificates.
The prosecution said other fake items such as seals of UCC, Land Title Registry, District Magistrate Court, Kumasi; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, West African Examination Council, and a hand and standing seal machine were found.
DSP Dery said when confronted on the content of the envelope, Daniel claimed to have received them from Jones through Eric.
Jones was arrested and the other fake documents and items were retrieved from his shop at home.
He said investigations also revealed that Jones was to design certificates of tertiary institutions and to emboss seals in them to make them appear genuine.
Other members of the syndicate played different roles in the perpetration of the crime and various sums of monies were collected from victims before the fake certificates were issued out to them.
