Three holidaymakers drown in Tema

Tema, April 19, GNA - Tragedy struck Tema on the Easter Monday when three holiday makers who went to the Sakomono Mighty Beach for enjoyment were drowned in the process.

The bodies of Mr Atsu Logah 22, Master Francis Atushem 13 and Mr Daniel Sowatey 23, have since been deposited at the Korle Bu Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

Unconfirmed reports, however, put the figure at eight, the number of persons who died on that day but the police said relatives of the three had officially reported to them.

Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah told the Ghana News Agency that on that day the three accompanied friends to the beach to have fun as it was the normal practice during festivities.

He said between 1300 hours and 1400 hours the friends detected the disappearance of the three and a search was conducted for them but without success.

Their bodies were washed ashore the following day and conveyed to the Korle Bu Hospital.

Every Easter Monday the Mighty Beach claims lives of holidaymakers in Tema.

In another development, Moses Atasatsa, a quack doctor who administered a concoction to a married woman, Madam Phyllis Quaye to abort a month old pregnancy has been arrested and placed in police custody. Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said Phyllis's health deteriorated and was rushed to the Tema General Hospital where she was admitted for some time and was discharged on Tuesday, April 13 2004.
