Three killed in police shooting incident

Residents at Mallam Atta in Accra have expressed surprise at what they described as unprovoked gun attack on three people.

The three were shot and killed by police men on Friday, in very controversial circumstances, the residents claim.

The deceased were said to have forced out of their infinity vehicle and with their hands on their heads the police men opened fire, killing them instantly.

The police at a press conference on Saturday said the deceased are suspected armed robbers.

But residents are not impressed at the circumstances under which the suspected robbers were killed.

“I was in my room. Shooting was going on. The manner in which the police killed the so-called armed robbers, for me I think it is unfair. Because armed robbers who were not armed; who were not exchanging words with you. Why would you immediately shoot them?

“As they surrounded them (deceased) the guys held their hands on their heads and they were not armed so for me I think they should have been arrested,” one of the eye witnesses told Joy News’ Abena Oppong.

“I saw them killing someone in the car. They just opened the door and started shooting,” another resident claimed.

The bodies of the three men have since been deposited at the morgue.
