Three people jailed 30 years for dealing in narcotic drugs

Tarkwa (WR), Feb. 5, GNA - A Tarkwa Circuit court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo has sentenced three people to 30 years imprisonment for dealing in narcotic drugs. Stephen Kofi Kyeremeh 30, a driver, Kofi Ketewa 32, and Elizabeth Kate 35, both farmers, pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Edward Padi told the court that on November 20, 2007 at 8.30 am the police on duty at Enchi snap check near Jensue Bridge intercepted a Nissan Urvan passenger bus driven by Kyeremeh and during a search found a sack containing some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. He said the police ordered Kyeremeh to send the bus to the police station but he refused and drove to another place at Enchi but later was arrested by the police.

Prosecution said during interrogation, Kyeremeh mentioned Ketewa and Kate as owners of the 50 parcels of Indian hemp and after investigations charged with the offence.
