Effia-Nkwanta(W/R), Jan. 14, GNA 97 The Medical Director of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Dr Paul Nkwaw Ntodi, on Friday said three persons died in the tragic accident that occurred at the Kwesimintsim Cemetary in Takoradi involving school children.
He said two school children died on the spot, whilst a 58-year-old woma= n who tried to assist the children also died at the casualty ward yesterday evening. Dr. Ntodi made this known to newsmen at the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, whe= n the Western Regional Minister, Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo and his entourage visited the victims at the casualty ward. Dr. Ntodi said the medical personnel at the hospital spent almost six hours on the injured victims at the theatre.
He said at the moment one was in a critical condition at the theatre, one at the X-ray Department and one person treated and discharged. The Medical Director said the new Accident Emergency Ward, which starte= d in 2008 had not been completed and called on philanthropists and corporate organizations in the country to help complete it. The Regional Minister consoled the relatives of the victims who were at the hospital and gave GHc200 each to the relatives of the victims to defray some of the medical expenses incurred on their wards. He pledged to offer more financial support to them in due course. Some of the relatives of the accident victims who were in sorrowful moo= d expressed their gratitude to the Regional Minister for his concern and support. Dignitaries who accompanied the Regional Minster included the Western Regional MTTU Commander, DSP Daniel Dzakah, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Kobina Pra Annan and the Chief Director at the Regional Coordinating Council, Mr David Yaro.
