Dambai, March 8, GNA - Swift response by ZOIL Life Guards on the Volta Lake at Dambai on February 22 averted a disaster on the Lake. The guards saved a driver and his two mates from drowning when their truck loaded with farm produce fell off the Dambai ferry into the lake. Mr Joe Nasandi, a spokesman, told Madam Monica Buabeng, the National Coordinator Volta Lake Transport Enhancement Project, said the truck that was parked on the ferry suddenly crashed through one of the engine compartments and fell into Lake at the start of the crossing from the Kete_Krachi end of the Lake to Dambai.
The driver praised the life guards of Zoil Ghana. "If not for the quick intervention of the life guards I would be in the grave," he said. Mad Buabeng said Zoil Ghana was committed to ensuring that no life is lost should accident happen on the Volta Lake. She said life guards had undergone life saving training at the Tema Naval Base.
She said 10,000 live jackets, two patrol boats and two speed boats will be provided to better enhance the work of the life guards.
