Three suspected armed robbers lynched

THREE suspected armed robbers who allegedly snatched a handbag from a woman at Osu, in Accra, were lynched by a mob in the early hours of yesterday.

However, a fourth suspect managed to escape with the handbag.

The suspects were said to have been pursued by a taxi driver who had conveyed the victim, a 21-year old student, from the Intercity STC yard to Nyaniba Estate. In their attempt to escape, the taxi cab the robbers were using crashed into a private car at the traffic lights junction near the Osu Presbyterian Church.

They came out of the wrecked car and took to their heels but the taxi driver who was pursuing them raised the alarm. Soon, people in the neighbourhood came and helped in apprehending them one after the other and lynched them.

One of them was arrested near the Christian Council building where he was beaten to death while the other two were chased to the Calvary Methodist Church area. All of them were stripped naked.
