The former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has criticised the approach by Richard Jakpa and his team from the National Security in their raids on former government officials in the country.
Addressing the incident, Dr Okoe Boye stated that the aggressive approach and thuggery employed by Jakpa and his team during their raids on former appointees are inconsistent with the country's laws and established practices.
"This thuggery, machoism belong to the medieval era from 1666 to 1896," he said during an interview on Metro TV on March 20, 2025.
Dr Okoe Boye further warned that the raids, along with the level of aggression exhibited by the security operatives, could destabilise the nation if the victims decide to retaliate.
He cautioned those close to Richard Jakpa and key figures of the governing NDC to call him to order regarding his conduct.
"Those who are near Jakpa should talk to him. This is how countries get destabilised. People can start harming themselves. Imagine if Governor Addison had an aggressive son who treated them as bandits or intruders. I mean, we don't need this," he continued.
The former lawmaker expressed the view that Jakpa and his team should instead redirect their focus towards apprehending individuals involved in smuggling opioids into the country.
"And like I said, if you are National Security, let's see how we can channel our energy into making the Ghanaian better off. Some people are smuggling the opioid drug into our territories, messing up the lives of the youth. Jakpa can channel his energy and aggression into making sure that he stops it."
He added, "There are people who are bringing things and avoiding taxes at the ports. Jakpa should see how he will deploy his strength to stop the damage. Recently, there was mention of fuel smuggling and all that; these are places where we can make savings and save some lives."
His comments follow a raid at the residence of former Bank of Governor Dr Ernest Addison.
Dr Addison was at home in the early hours of Wednesday, March 19, when the heavily armed men, some in balaclavas, wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, showed up to carry out a search.
Reports indicate that members of the team from National Security immediately disabled the CCTV system at the property.
