As the country’s coronavirus case count keeps surging, the National Democratic Congress has asked President Akufo-Addo to step up his game in the fight against the coronavirus.

Currently, Ghana has recorded 3,019 cases with 303 recoveries and 18 deaths. This, the minority leader in parliament, Haruna Iddrisu says, it's a wakeup call to President Akufo-Addo as the situation is deteriorating.

“The latest update which is 3,019 confirmed cases is the second-highest in West Africa after Nigeria and most of you would want to do proportional figures in terms of the population of Nigeria against that of Ghana at 3,019 when Nigeria is at 3,145. It should be worrying about development and phenomenal for us all. This problem development should serve as a wakeup call that the time for wishful thinking is over”.

The NDC has also urged the NPP government to refrain from giving false hope to Ghanaians that the virus is being contained when the government’s response to the situation has been slow because of the loose interpretation of science, data on the ground.

Haruna Iddrisu called on President Akufo-Addo to pay heed and respect to scientific advice given him by medical professionals to help chase out the virus from the country.

He made these assertions at a press conference on Thursday while addressing the media in Accra, on Thursday, May 6, 2020.
