Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed in Accra that time has vindicated him on his description of former President Goodluck Jonathan as incompetent, MyNewsGh.com reports.

Obasanjo who stood his grounds against campaigning for Jonathan who was seeking re-election indicates that many accused him of crying wolf at the time but with time Nigerians have come to appreciate what he meant by saying the then president was not performing.

In a teaser of an interview he granted Ghanaweb’s Kyenkyenhene Boateng on his '21 minutes with KKB' show, a copy of which MyNewsGh.com has obtained, Obasanjo justified the incompetence tag he associated with Nigeria's former President Goodluck Jonathan insisting he has no regrets for describing him as such.

“Ok I cry wolf…I said Jonathan was not performing and some people said eii! Again? He is crying wolf now? With the benefit of hindsight it is proven that Jonathan the area I pointed out were found to be true”, he stated.

Goodluck Jonathan served as Vice President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010 and became President from 2010 to 2015 when he lost to the current president.

Olusegun Obasanjo who was a formidable force behind Goodluck, pulled his support for his party’s candidate citing non-performance and incompetence as his basis. He subsequently urged his supporters to do same.

Mr. Obasanjo, who supported Mr. Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 presidential election said his love for Nigeria and Mr. Jonathan’s lacklustre performance made him dump the PDP to support the APC.

“All these led me to take the unusual step of going against my own political Party, PDP, in the last general election to support the opposite side,” he insisted.

“I saw that action as the best option for Nigeria. As it has been revealed in the last three years or so , that decision and the subsequent collective decision of Nigerians to vote for a change was the right decision for the nation".

“For me, there was nothing personal, it was all in the best interest of Nigeria and, indeed, in the best interest of Africa and humanity at large. Even the horse rider then, with whom I maintain very cordial, happy and social relationship today has come to realise his mistakes and regretted it publicly and I admire his courage and forthrightness in this regard”, he said at the time.
