Togbe Afede fights soldiers, sues Attorney General, Defence Minister et al.

A member of the Counsel of State who is also the President of the National House of Chiefs has filed a suit against the Chief of Defence Staff, Minister of Interior, Attorney General and a private developer for trying to breach his right.

Togbe Afede XIV, who is also the Paramount Chief of the Asorgli State, Tuesday, 28th February, 2017 filed the action under Article 33 and Order 67 of the C.I 47 seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights to privacy of his home.

The action among others is seeking a declaration that the wing or the part of six-storey being put up by the military that directly overlooks his compound is in breach of his right to privacy under Article 18 of the 1992 Constitution.

His counsel, Francis-Xavier Sosu, a renowned human rights lawyer who filed the case said he has also filed an injunction to restrain the military from carrying out any further development on the said structure pending the final determination of the case.

The injunction is to be heard on 14th March, 2017 at the Human Rights high court, Accra.
