Toilets being converted into living rooms?

Accra, Feb.8, GNA - Mr Frank Chinbuah, Chief Environmental and Health Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), on Wednesday condemned the activities of landlords who converted places of convenience in their houses into living rooms.

He cautioned that landlords should not see public places of convenience as a private venture and that any landlord caught by the laws would be dealt with accordingly.

Speaking to the GNA at a workshop organized by Inter-Faith- Waste Management Initiative in Accra, Mr Chinbuah said it was the responsibility of the District Assemblies to demarcate and provide public places of convenience, especially at places where people congregated for social activities.

He also bemoaned the activities of some estate developers, who failed to include places of convenience as done by the State Housing Corporation in their construction work at Mamprobi in the Greater Accra Region.

Earlier at the workshop, Mr Yacoub Shuaih Abban, General Secretary of the Ahlussunna Wal-Jama'a, a Muslim Association, said Zongo communities should plan their areas to ensure they lived in hygienic conditions.

He pledged the support of the Muslim community towards the programme adding that they would undertake intensive awareness programmes starting from the Mosques.
