The classifieds website also offers a comprehensive list of products ranging from mobile phones and cars, to lands available for purchase in all the major cities in Ghana.
Tonaton.com is the company’s first product to be launched in Africa. With an estimated internet user population of about 2.5 million, Tonaton.com enters the Ghana market with the simple aim of providing a credible website for buyers and sellers to interact. The site can best be described as an easy-to-use, free classified website where you can buy and sell a wide range of items.
The website reflects the company’s ethos of providing a simple, safe and fast buying-selling experience to consumers. With a greater vision of propelling online trading of second-hand items to new heights, Tonaton.com hopes it will provide the ideal platform for private persons as well as small and medium-sized enterprises to place themselves on the online market.
“Tonaton”, meaning “Buy and Sell” in Twi, seeks to provide a credible platform forthe buyer and the seller. The website allows users to seamlessly upload ads onto the site and have them displayed within 4 hours of posting. The ads will go through a stringent approval process, making sure that they follow the terms and conditions to ensure the products and services sold are legitimate and as genuine as possible.
The website permits posting of classified ads on the site for no charge. ”This is a product for everyone” says CEO Nils Hammar, “it’s not for just one group, but a product that anyone can use easily”. Users are simply required to submit a valid email address and in three easy steps, the ad can be uploaded onto the site.
Owing to the growing use of mobile internet in Ghana, the Tonaton.com team has also launched a mobile site. For a country with a high mobile phone penetration, mobile phones are users’ first point of contact with the digital world.
For sellers, the site provides benefits such as free ad placements, potentially faster sales than anywhere else and possibly better offers for their products. The ads are valid on the site for a period of 90 days. Also the site is available throughout Ghana, so buyers can purchase items from someone in their own towns and cities. The best deals are often done with people who live in your own city or on your own street son Tonaton.com it’s easy to buy and sell locally. All you have to do is select your region. For buyers, the site provides a wide selection of great deals on a choice of items, ranging from electronics and pets to vehicles and houses. The risk in travelling long distances to trade is also greatly reduced.
The company hopes to change the way individuals use the internet, by providing easy-to-use websites. While expert programmers in Sweden are involved in the development process of Tonaton.com, the page is managed and maintained by a local representative in Ghana to ensure that the end-consumer receives a 100% localized experience.
Mr. Hammar stated, “The Ghanaian market is developing at a phenomenal rate. This coupled with the increase in internet penetration and usage in the country indicates that we have plenty of opportunity in this country. As the country continues to grow and develop, Tonaton.com will grow parallel to it. As internet usage increases in schools, homes and among mobile phone users, we at Tonaton.com sees an opportunity to introduce something different, interesting and beyond traditional classified advertising to Ghanaians.
"Our interface is easy-to-use and convenient for both sellers and buyers. We are optimistic about Ghana and we want to be a part of the growth that the country is experiencing.”
