Tuba (GA/R), Nov. 6, GNA - A team of policemen from Accra on Sunday allegedly invaded the residence of Ali Agbona, chief of Tuba, near Kokrobite and succeeded in arresting him, throwing the community into a state of fear and confusion.
A group of the chief's supporters thronged the Odorkor Police Station where he was being held singing songs demanding his immediate release as police were taking statements from the complainants. Mr Nuhu Dango, District Commander of Police in charge of Odorkor told the Ghana News Agency that the chief was arrested upon complaints that he was suspected to have organized a mob to assault the two complainants in the case.
Briefing the GNA further on issues leading to the chief's arrest, Nii Asaase Ayitey, Chief Fisherman of Kokrobite claimed that the chief was being victimized because he belonged to one faction in a land dispute.
He said the other faction was only using the complainants who were their supporters, but not resident in the community to cause confusion. Nii Ayittey accused the police of high handedness and ruthlessness during the arrest, saying they fired shots to scare the residents even though the chief did not resist arrest and that they manhandled him prompting some of his subjects to converge at the Odorkor Police Station to protest against the manner in which he was picked-up.
