Accra, April, 20, GNA-The Planning Council of the Ghana International Trade Fair Company (GITFC) organisers of the just ended Millennium Fair on Wednesday, rounded off its activities with a luncheon to honour organisations that made the fair successful.
In all, 46 organisations received certificates. Among the organisations, which received honours were, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Ghana Police Service, and Ghana Airways Company Limited.
The rest were Ghana Telecom, Motor Traffic and Transport Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS), Ministry of Trade and Industry, "TV 3" and "Metro TV".
Mr Lawson Gidigasu, General Manager (Operations) of the GITFC said there was an improvement in the "Millennium Fair" as compared to the one organised in 1998.
He said while the 1998 fair had 544 local and 265 foreign participants, making a total of 809 participants, with 850,000 visitors, this year's recorded a total of 680 local and 285 foreign participants with 900,000 visitors, showing an improvement over the 1998 fair.
He said last year's spot sales added up to 10 million dollars and two billion cedis, with export orders amounting to 50 million cedis. Mr Gidigasu said this year's spot sales totalled 15 million dollars and 800 million cedis while export orders hit 75 million dollars and 150 million cedis.
