Kumasi, (Ashanti Region) 9, Oct. The Kumasi Circuit Tribunal on Thursday sentenced Kofi Amoako, a Kumasi-based trader, to three years' imprisonment in hard labour for stealing. Amoako had pleaded not guilty to stealing cash and personal effects worth about 926,000 cedis belonging to Ibrahim Musah, a student. Police Chief Inspector Nicholas Darkwah told the tribunal chaired by Mr R. C. A. Azumah that Musah came from Bawku to Kumasi sometime last year and met Amoako with whom he made friends. Amoako then took Musah to his hometown, Kenyasi, near Antoa, and spent some few days there with him. Chief Inspector Darkwah said Musah told Amoako about his intention to buy a motor-bike and Amoako promised to assist him. The prosecution said Musah later left for Bawku and returned on December 31, last year, with some belongings, a bank draft and 600,000 cedis cash. It said Amoako collected the bag containing the clothings and the money, sent them to Kenyasi and returned to Kumasi with Musah. On their arrival at Kumasi, however, Amoako disappeared and Musah went back to Kenyasi but could not trace him or his bag and reported the matter to the police. The prosecution said on February four, this year, Musah spotted Amoako in Kumasi and raised the alarm and Amoako was arrested.
