Trader in court for robbery

Kwame Muntari, a Trader, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, contrary to section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act.

Kwame was said to have committed the robbery at North Industrial Area in the Greater Accra Region.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence, but was remanded into prison custody to reappear on August 12.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patrick Morkeh said the complainant is a sales executive at Atico-Accra while the accused person lives at Accra New Town.

He said at about 1715 hours on July 22, the complainant closed from work at North Industrial Area and was walking along the road near the old Melcom building to board a vehicle home.

DSP Morkeh said suddenly, the accused person with his accomplice, one Halid Musah Delad, now at large, snatched her hand bag containing her Techno p3 mobile phone, a pair of shoes, an ATM card, a jacket and other personal belongings.

He said policemen on duty at the scene spotted the accused persons and gave them a chase, but in trying to escape the accused persons run into a ditch, abandoned their motor bikes and took to their heels.

He said the accused was later arrested by a mob after the alarm was raised and handed over to the police.

The prosecution told the court that during interrogation the accused person admitted the offence and was charged after investigations with the offence.

He said the Police are making efforts to get the second accused person arrested.
