Trader jailed for incest

Accra, Feb. 17, GNA - A 39 year-old trader, who continually abused his 11-year old daughter sexually, was on Tuesday sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment with hard labour by a Circuit Court in Accra.

His daughter, now 18 years old, who could not withstand her father's animalistic behaviour, reported the matter to the Police. Michael Marshall Nana Kwame, alias Yaw Mosi pleaded guilty to incest and defilement.

The court sat over by Mr Kwadwo Owusu, therefore convicted Kwame on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Inspector Emmanuel Tawiah Boison told the Court that the victim resides in Accra with his father and her siblings. Prosecution said the victim's mother became mentally retarded and the convict started defiling her at the age of 11.

On each occasion, the Convict warned the victim not to disclose his wicked acts to anyone, especially her aunties and grandfather. The Prosecution said the convict continued with his acts until February 4, 2004 when the victim became unhappy about her father's behaviour and reported the matter to the Police.

She was issued with a medical report form to attend hospital for examination and treatment.

The Police consequently arrested the convict who admitted the offence, but pleaded for forgiveness.
