Traders appeal to IGP

Nsawam, July 8, GNA - Madam Janet Oye Badua, Queenmother of Yam Sellers Association at Nsawam in the Akuapem South District on Thursday appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to help them retrieve over 200 million cedis taken over by the Dambai Police in the Eastern Region.

She said the affected yam sellers are from Asamankese, Koforidua, Accra, Suhum and Oda.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at a meeting organised by the association to plan how best they could get money for their trading, Madam Badua said they were attacked by armed robbers between Worawora and Domabeng about two weeks ago and they took away their mobile phones and monies amounting to over 200 million cedis at gun point. She said they reported the incident to the Dambai Police, who quickly arrested some of the robbers who were suspected to be Fulanis and collected the money from them, but up to date the amount is locked up with the police, depriving them (the yam sellers) of capital to trade.
