Trading and farming women benefit from credit facilities

Winneba-Junction (C/R), Oct. 23, GNA - The Winneba-Junction branch of the Akyempim Rural Bank in the Central Region, has given out 510 million cedis as loans to a number of women traders and farmers within its catchment area between January and September, this year.

Moneys which were disbursed to the beneficiaries came from the Social Investment Fund (SIF), Women and Development (W & D) and the bank's own traditional credit schemes.

Mrs. Prudence Aba Manful, a branch manageress of the bank, announced this when she addressed a group of the beneficiaries at Winneba-Junction on Thursday to remind them of the need to utilise the loans purposefully.

Mrs. Manful commended the Government for channelling some of its credit facilities through the rural banks for implementation, and charged the women to work hard to enable them to redeem the loans in good time.

She asked them to visit the bank regularly for expert advice to promote their businesses.

Mrs. Manful also urged them to train their female children; especially the jobless ones so that they could take over at the right time to ensure the sustainability of their operation.

A spokesperson for the group, Madam Faustina Owusuah, thanked the manageress for the bank's continued concern for the growth of their individual and collective trading ventures, and gave the assurance that members of the group would work hard to justify the trust and confidence that the bank and the Government had posed in them. 23 Oct. 04
