Train crashes into metro mass transit bus

Accra, May 26, GNA - An Accra-Nsawam bound train on Wednesday evening crashed into the front-view of a metro mass transit bus at the railway intersection on the Graphic road in Accra injuring the bus driver on the head.

Police sources at the scene told Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the injured driver had been sent to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.

It said there was vehicular congestion on the road because of the rush-hour but the bus did not stop few meters away from the railway line as required making the train to hit its front view. The source said normally, the train would blow its horn when reaching the intersection but it appeared the driver did not hear it blow the horn. It said the bus was not fully loaded and none of the passengers was injured.

The source said when the incident occurred; the train stopped across the road worsening the congestion but had since left which improved traffic flow.

It said the bus together with a white saloon car which was beside it and hit by the bus had been towed away. An eye-witness account told GNA that the fuel tank of the bus burst leading to leakage of fuel on the section of the road where the incident occurred.
