Deputy Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, says the memo banning Ministers and their deputies, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) from all foreign travels was leaked.

According to him, although the memo was an official document from the Presidency, it was not meant for public consumption.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has in a memo dated 21st June, 2018, placed a temporary ban on all foreign travels by Ministers and their deputies, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) as well as all Heads of Government Agencies.

The statement signed by Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare exempted the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration from the ban.

Speaking to Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive Monday, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah explained that the ban is to afford the government ample time to review guidelines surrounding travels by the ministers and all government appointees.

He hinted that the moment the guidelines are completed the ban will be lifted to enable the officials to travel.

“The memo was not meant for public consumption; it was an internal communique which leaked. That notwithstanding, we might not make a public announcement when the ban is lifted,” he said.

He, however, added that Ministers and government appointees who have urgent work related to appointments outside Ghana are at liberty to apply to the office of the Chief of Staff with the relevant documents.
