The Electoral Commission on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, started compiling a new voters’ register ahead of the country’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December.

The exercise is being held at all registration centres and district offices of the EC throughout the country. The decision to compile a new electoral roll was met with fierce opposition from political parties, CSOs and members of the academia.

The process has been generally smooth according to CODEO, albeit with a few hitches, however, some Ghanaians who have acquired the new cards told Ghanaweb that the new cards look sub-standard.

Others also lamented the difficulty in getting their names into the electoral roll and getting the printed card.

“I suffered before I got this new card. I was here yesterday to write my name and fill all the necessary forms before the EC officials told me it was time. So got here this dawn but again I found that my name had been put among those who came last.

“So, in fact, I suffered before getting this card. And about the card, I think the old one looks much better. But this new one feels light. Also, my photo on this new card is not clear. But on the old one it was clearer,” one person in Accra told Ghanaweb.
