Tribunal remands alleged rapist

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - An Accra Community Tribunal on Friday remanded in custody Swalisu Bukari, a self-employed man, who together with four accomplices now on the ran, dragged a 22-year-old porter into a room and forcibly had sex with her.

Bukari, 25, was charged with rape. His plea was not taken and he will appear again on September 17. Majeed Ibrahim, one of the accomplices, has been arrested at Tamale and will soon be arraigned before the tribunal.

The rest are Suleman Njaba, Mohammed and Acheampong. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal chaired by Mr Kwadwo Owusu that the victim and accused persons live at Kokomba Market in Accra. Inspector Tawiah said at about 2200 hours on August four, Bukari invited the victim to his house under the pretext of delivering a letter from Tamale to her.

He said while the victim was in the house, the accused persons dragged her into a room and forcibly had sex with her one after the other. The victim screamed until someone went to rescue her. According to the prosecutor, Ibrahim, Njaba, Mohammed and Acheampong managed to escape.
