Tribute to President Mills

Following the shocking death of President John Evans Atta Mill, messages of condolences have been coming in from leaders from all parts of the world.

Jonathan mourns Atta Mills

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has received with shock and immense sadness news of the sudden death of President John Atta Mills of Ghana.
On behalf of himself, the government and people of Nigeria, President Jonathan extends sincere condolences to late President Mill’s family as well as the government and people of Ghana.
The President assures the people of Ghana of the sympathy and solidarity of the people of Nigeria as they mourn late President Mills who did his best during his tenure to carry forward the process of democratic consolidation and socio-economic development in Ghana.
He prays that God Almighty will grant the late President’s soul eternal rest and bless his successor with the fortitude and wisdom he will need to keep Ghana firmly on the path of peace, stability and progress.
It is President Jonathan’s hope and expectation that the excellent relationship which existed between Nigeria and Ghana during President Mill’s tenure will continue to be strengthened under the new leadership in Ghana in the mutual interest of both countries.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has heard with deepest regret the news of the death of the President – H.E. John Evans Atta Mills.
We join the nation in mourning this sad loss to Ghana and extend to his wife and Family, our deepest condolences.
We also extend our condolences to the National Democratic Congress.
As a mark of respect, the N.P.P. immediately suspends the celebration of its 20th Anniversary of the Party. Accordingly, our Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, has suspended his campaign immediately.
We call on our fellow Ghanaians at home and abroad and friends of Ghana to join us and pray for his soul to Rest in Peace.

The PPP has learnt with a heavy heart the sudden and untimely passing away of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Prof. John Evans Attah Mills.
The PPP wishes to convey the heartfelt condolences of the entire membership to the people of Ghana, the National Democratic Congress, the first lady, Dr. Mrs. Naadu Mills and family of the former president.
We urge all Ghanaians to remain calm and circumspect in this trying moment in our national life.
We pledge our full support and cooperation to the Vice President His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama as he prepares to take up the mantle of leadership and take steps to offer a befitting farewell to the father of the nation.

PM pays tribute to Ghana president

Prime Minister David Cameron has said he was deeply saddened to hear about the death of Ghanaian president John Atta Mills at the age of 68.
Mills, who ran three times for president before being elected in the closest vote in Ghana's history on a platform vowing to reform the west African country, died this afternoon at the 37th Military Hospital in Accra.
He was poised to seek re-election this year. As yet, there are no details about the cause of his death.
Mr Cameron paid tribute to the politician, describing him as a "tireless defender of democracy".
He said: "I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of President Mills earlier.
"President Mills was a tireless defender of democracy in west Africa and across the continent, and he will be greatly missed.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family, and all the Ghanaian people on this difficult day."
