Tension is gradually mounting at Nsoatre in the Sunyani East District of the Brong Ahafo Region between the Omanhene of Nsoatre Traditional Council, Nana Professor Oppong Boakye and members of his royal family (Sasreku Royal Family) over the decision of the former to depose an Odikro of one of the settlements on his land and replaced him with his chosen candidate.

Nana Oppong Boakye is alleged to have sacked the Odikro of Nsoatre- Amanfosu, Nana Kwaku Addaie last Monday and replaced him with one Abuu Sariku stressing that the former Odikro was not a royal. This move has angered a section of the Sasreku Royal Family led by Nana Yeboah Asuamah who claimed they did not recognize the Kingship of the Omanhene, Nana Oppong Boakye and are therefore challenging his authority at the Wenchi High Court.

At a press conference yesterday at Nsoatre, the abusuapanyin of Sasreku family dared the Omanhene to go ahead and install a new Odikro at Nsoatre Amanfosu and he will be faced with force.

He accused the Omanhene of unilaterally deposing sub-chiefs in the Nsoatre Traditional Area even though he is not recognized as the paramount chief of the area accusing him of also masterminding the killing of 5 persons at Nsoatre since 2001 all because he wanted to be the paramount chief of Nsoatre at all cost.

Surrounded by other members of the royal family all in mourning clothes to signify their seriousness of the case, Nana Asuamah also dared the New Odikro to carry himself around as the chief of the Amanfoso and he will be dealt with and warning him not to step foot on Amanfosu else there will be clashes. He indicted Abuu of not being a royal from Nsoatre but from Zezera in the Jaman South District so cannot be chief or odikro at Nsoatre. The meeting was attended by the four gates that made up the Sasreku Royal family including Abuo number 1, Twabri, Kusiase and Amanfoso.

Nana Asuamah blamed the police and the Attorney General’s Department for failing to prosecute the Omanhene for allegedly shooting and killing some natives at his palace saying, “since the dockets on the case has been forwarded to the department for advice, nothing has been heard of it again.” He threatened that if nothing concrete is done by the state to solve the problem, the elders will deal with it by themselves.
