Kandiga(UE), Sept 11, GNA- Supporters of Mr Abuga Pele and Mr Rodulf Amenga-Etego both parliamentary aspiring candidates of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Chiana=96Paga Constituency in the Upper East Region have resorted to retaliatory physical and verbal attacks.

At the weekend for instance, a group alleged to be the supporters of Mr Pele disrupted a press conference organized by the supporters of Mr Amenga-Etego Serigu, in the constituency. The Press Conference was later shifted to Kandiga, a nearby community.

Addressing the Press Conference at Kandiga, the spokesperson of the Amenga-Etego campaign team, Mr Caswell A Alia called on the National Executive of the Party to step in and diffuse the animosity between the two factions since it had the tendency of destroying the party's image which the New Patriotic Party would exploit to capture the parliamentary seat. "We cannot afford to lose the Parliamentary seat to the NPP again

this time and this is the time the hierarchy of the NDC Party must get up to address the issue before it gets out of hand".

He said Mr Pele in his 12 years in Parliament brought no development to the eastern and western zones where the party got majority of its votes in the last Presidential and Parliamentary elections and wondered why he still wanted to contest for the Parliamentary seat.

"For the 12 years that he was an MP, the East Zone cannot boast of even a urinal pit under the initiation of Mr Abuga Pele. A community Centre which he started in the West Zone was abandoned and looks so dilapidated that not even a rat will take shelter in it."

In a counter press conference held at Paga, another group calling itself the Supporters of Mr Abuga Pele Campaign Team and Constituency NDC supporters stated that they stopped the group alleged to be Mr Amenga-Etego Campaign Team at Serigu from organizing the Press Conference because the group was not known to be members of the NDC.

In a statement read by Mr Magnus Aloah, the group refuted allegations leveled against Mr Pele and noted that during his tenure of office as MP for the area, he brought a lot of developmental projects to the entire constituency.

According to the group, the former MP was the brain behind the electrification project in most of the communities which hitherto had no electricity, adding, he also contributed 150 bags of cement including roofing sheets for the building of Atiyorum Community Health centre in the East Zone.

The Assemblyman for the Nabolgu Electoral area, Mr Clement Ndogsi, stated that the construction of the Azase Primary School in his electoral area was through the initiation of Mr Pele.

The group said the former MP also facilitated the process of making the Sirigu Community Senior High School a high grade Senior High School just like Navrongo and Bolgatanga Senior High Schools.

"Mr Abuga Pele has stocked the library of Sirigu Senior High School with many computers and books and even paid school fees for many students", the campaign team and Constituency party supporters added.
