Truck pusher gets six years for stealing car

Accra, July 22, GNA - A Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Friday sentenced a truck pusher to six years' imprisonment for stealing a Mitsubishi pick-up.

Ibrahim Mohammed pleaded not guilty to the charge, but the tribunal found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.

Alex Kuertey, a welder, who was in the dock with Mohammed, was jailed six months for dishonestly receiving the vehicle. The case for the Prosecution was that at about 2000 hours on July 17, Mr Kwame Agyir, owner of the vehicle, parked it in front of his house at Darkuman Quarters. The following morning, Mr Agyir realised that the car had disappeared.

Two days later, he had a tip-off that his stolen vehicle had been parked at Kuertey's workshop at Odorkor Official Town. When he arrived at the workshop, he saw the vehicle and detected that its dashboard had been dismantled.

He thereupon made a report to the Police, who saw Mohammed dismantling the front fittings of the vehicle when they arrived. When the Police arrested both convicts, Kuertey disclosed that Mohammed brought the vehicle to him for repairs.
