Twelve 'prostitutes' arrested at a brothel in Koforidua

A total of twelve persons suspected of soliciting for sex at Bula spot, a popular brothel in Koforidua are in the grips of the police.

Eastern regional police PRO, DSP Eben Tetteh said the district commander, Chief Superintendent Aduhene Binneh led a team of police officers and community protection personnel to the scene and apprehended the suspects.

The Police team, according to the PRO, were able to arrest Gideon Syivor Mendah, 42, Michael Adjei 40, William Danquah, 24, Ekpo Torbe, 23 , Kwaku Ayogame,30, Kwame Musah, 24.

The rest are Mary Wondalo 39, Rachel Adofo, 26, Constance Abiaw, 20, Joyce Monday, 23, a Nigeria national and Paulina Ayisi, age 20.

Owner of the facility, 61-year-old Anthony Ekar was also arrested in the swoop.

The facility is notorious for the trading of sex, with authorities at the New Juaben south municipal assembly threatening to pull it down. Municipal chief executive, Ike Apaw Gyasi during a media encounter promised to carry out a demolishing exercise that will affect Bula spot.

DSP Tetteh said keeping a brothel is contrary to section 277 OF criminal offences act 1960, ACT 29.

Meanwhile, the police patrol team has also arrested four persons who are believed to be part of a wee smoking gang at Betom,a suburb of Koforidua. Suspects Yaw Boateng, 21, Clodia Sdu Bimpong 27, Mohammed Ishaiwu 30 and Aaron Bempong aged 20 were arrested at their hideout.

DSP Tetteh said a search was conducted on them but nothing incriminating was found.
