Two Chinese have been arrested at Krofufruom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region engaged in illegal mining.
This follows a routine intelligence-led operation conducted by the Monitoring and Evaluation Team of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) on Friday.
According to a release signed by the Head of the Monitoring Team, Staff Sergeant Francis Assibi Abu, there was an excavator, which belongs to Liuggong, at the site.
“The said Liuggong excavator has since then been evacuated and handed over to the excavator evacuation team.”
Two pump action guns, some quantity of fuel, five grease, five excavator batteries, one generator and one cylinder were retrieved from the site.
GH¢5,200, 1196 and 329 as well as one gold-weighing scale, a wallet and ID cards were also found on the foreign nationals.
The two Chinese – Liang Huanqun, 35, and Shye Ken, 60 – are being processed for court.
