Two ‘Honourables’ Caged In Sex Scandals

THE TWO ‘honourable’ Assemblymen of Obuasi Municipal Assembly who are embroiled in sex scandals, have been remanded by an Obuasi Circuit Court.

John Bright Mensah of Kwabrafoso East electoral area and his counterpart from Tutuka-Tiatiaso electoral area, Joseph Kofi Anokye, stand accused of defiling a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old girl respectively. Parents of the 15-year-old girl lodged a complaint of defilement against the assemblyman of Tututka-Tiatiaso at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Obuasi Divisional Police Command.

Anokye, popularly known as ‘School Boy’ or Kofi Kra allegedly raped the class-six pupil of Tutuka Methodist Primary at a bath house on Monday around 11:20 pm while she was taking her bath.

Inspector Albert Anani told the court presided over by Gilbert Ayisi Addo that the accused and the victim were both resident in a storey building at Tutuka.

According to the police prosecutor, somewhere in October last year Kofi Kra chased the victim into her uncle’s bedroom to retrieve an amount of GH¢20.00 he claimed the primary six girl had stolen from him.

Inspector Anani said the girl informed her uncle that the said money was given to her by the accused after she turned down his request for sex.

On December 19, 2011 around 11:20 pm while the girl was taking her bath, the accused person entered the bathroom and demanded to have sex with her, the prosecution narrated further. According to the police officer, the victim turned down the request, but the assemblyman, who was bent on unleashing his libido on the innocent girl, went to hide at the male bathroom adjacent to where the girl was taking her bath.

No sooner had the girl finished bathing than the accused attacked her from behind and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the victim after overpowering her.

He stated further that it took the screaming of the victim to draw the attention of her aunty, who came to her rescue.

Sensing danger, Kofi Anokye dashed out of the scene and took to his heels.

The 15-year-old victim was taken to the Obuasi Government Hospital for treatment after a police medical form was issued to her.

The accused was later arrested and charged with the offence when he honoured a police invitation to him.

The incident came shortly after the Municipal Chief Executive, John Alexander Ackon, had admonished members not to engage in acts that would dent the image of the Assembly after John Bright Mensah’s episode in recent time.

He is expected back in court on January 12, 2012, while his counterpart John Bright Mensah is scheduled to appear in court today.
