A bloody clash nearly ensued between two youth groups within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Ghana International Press Centre on Monday.

A press conference scheduled by a group calling itself, "Action Movement 2020" was disrupted by another faction, “Victory for NDC”, bringing the programme to an abrupt end.

Action Movement is demanding a rejection of former President John Dramani Mahama if he contests the 2020 flagbearership.

The group claim the former president is the cause of NDC’s defeat in the 2016 general elections.

According to them, pronouncements made during the heat of the 2016 by John Mahama were not convincing as he his main challenger, Nana Addo focused on real issues .They claim those pronouncements from the former president caused the defeat.

However, in the course of the press conference, the other faction besieged the grounds, bringing the program to a halt. They were of the view that the attempt to blame President Mahama for the 2016 election defeat was misinforming.

“We came here to stop them because we don’t want them to insult our incoming flagbearer who is John Mahama,” an angry pro-Mahama supporter told our reporter.

They argued that all NDC executives should accept blame for the December 7 defeat .

They claim their interest is to protect the hard won reputation of the former president and the NDC, warning that any attempt to destroy his (Mahama’s) name will be crushed.
