Two Police Officers refurbish cells at own cost

Ho, July 20, GNA - Superintendent of Police Samuel Owusu-Berko, Ho Municipal Police Commander and his Station Officer Chief, Inspector Evans Vorvor, have funded the renovation of the Ho Police cells.

The two, contributed some money and with assistance from “friends of the Station” refurbished the cells.

Mr Owusu-Berko described the refurbished cells as ultra-modern and among the best.

“I know after painting and adding few final touches, our cells will be the best in the country,” he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

The cells with decent washrooms, a tap, tiled floor, mattresses, buckets and blankets are now free of disgusting odour.

The mattresses and blankets were donated by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

Mr Owusu-Berko said the initiative was to “restore human dignity” to suspects in police custody.

“We just want to make people who are suspected to have committed crime feel as human beings.”

GNA saw some suspects in custody relaxing on the mattresses.

One of the suspects, who was reading a Bible, told the GNA that he was happy about the facelift and commended the Municipal Commander for his initiative and foresight.
