Duayaw-Nkwanta(B/A), Dec.1, GNA - Five development projects undertaken by Tano South District Assembly estimated at about two billion cedis were inaugurated on Wednesday.
The projects were two unit pre-school classroom blocks with boarding and dinning halls and a washroom for Yamfo Anglican and Mankranho Local Authority primary schools.
The others were a children's ward for the Saint John of God Hospital at Duayaw-Nkwanta, an administrative block for the Area Council at Techire and a four-bedroom bungalow for the District Police Commander at Koforidua.
Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, inaugurated the projects jointly with Mr. Nicholas Lenin Anane-Agyei, Tano North District Chief Executive at separate durbars at Yamfo and Mankranho. He reiterated the Government's commitment and preparedness to enhance quality education in the country. Mr. Baffour-Awuah, advised parents to take advantage of the Capitation grant scheme and enroll their children in school, but expressed regret at parents who engaged their children in farming instead of sending them to school.
Mr. Kwabena Gyan Dartey, Assemblyman for Mankranho, said many problems affecting the people were, rehabilitation of deplorable roads and schools in the area and provision of potable water. He appealed to the assembly to upgrade the school to a Junior Secondary School because students from Mankranho travel about three kilometres to Adrobaa JSS.
At Duayaw-Nkwanta, Mr. Baffour-Awuah said the assistance to the hospital was to promoting the cordial relations between the Government and religious institutions for national development and facilitate the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He said the scheme could be sustained when hospital bills were well managed and advised management of the scheme to plan and institute measures to ensure its sustainability to promote quality health care delivery.
At Koforidua, Mr. Anane-Agyei said the police played a crucial role in maintaining law and order and called on the people to alert the police on suspicious characters within their communities. Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Ayensu Opare-Addo, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, stressed the need to promote relations between the police and the public to protect life and property. He commended the assembly for the assistance and gave the assurance that the police would endeavour to arrest drug peddlers within the district.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Francis Mensah, the District Police Commander, commended the assembly for the bungalow and the concern shown to the welfare of the police and appealed for assistance to renovate police barracks in the district. At Techire, Mr. Anane-Agyei said the block for the area council was to help promote the decentralization process in national development. He said the Government was committed to promote human resource development and create conducive environment for the private sector to thrive.
Nana Akromah Mensah III, Chief of Techire, was optimistic that the assembly would provide other facilities for the block. 01 Dec.05
