Two chiefs praise government

Yeji (B/A), Aug 03, GNA - Two paramount chiefs in Brong Ahafo have commended the government for providing infrastructure that had made life worthwhile in their areas.

The chiefs said the introduction of the Capitation Grant had increased enrolment in schools their areas and urged the government to extend the feeding programme to their areas. Nana Kwadwo Nyarko 111, Omanhene of Prang Traditional Area and Nana Yaw Kabrese VI, Omanhene of Yeji, made the commendation during separate courtesy calls on them by Mr Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister and Mr Kwadwo Kwakye, the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister.

Nana Kwadwo Nyarko expressed concern about the deplorable state of roads linking the deprived communities, inadequate rural electrification and lack of health facilities in some communities in his area. He appealed to the Regional Co-ordinating Council to set up a committee to help eliminate land disputes for peace to prevail in the Pru District.

The two ministers visited Kajaji, Kwame-Danso, Wiase in Sene district and Prang, Abease and Yeji in Pru district in the region. Nana Yaw Kabrese said his traditional area had benefited a lot from projects from the government and expressed the hope that the government would retain power in 2008 elections to continue with its good policies.

Mr Baffour-Awuah called on Muslim parents to take keen interest in the secular education of their children, saying even though the Islamic culture instilled discipline in the children, secular education would enable them to effectively face the challenges of the modern world. The Regional Minister advised those who had not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme to do so to ensure prompt and quality health care delivery.

Mr. Baffour-Awuah later commissioned a six-unit double teachers' bungalow estimated at 635 million cedis constructed by the Ministry of Education and funded by the GETFUND at Cheremo in Pru district.
