Two in custody for possessing gun

Two men are in the custody of the police for allegedly possessing a gun with four rounds of ammunition at Amasaman in the Ga West Municipal Assembly.

The suspects, Alfred Kobina, 23, and Maxwell Ofori, were arrested with the weapon concealed in a sack.

Breaking the news at a press conference in Accra yesterday, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said on November 28, at about 2 a.m., the Amasaman patrol team intercepted a Nissan Sentra taxi cab with registration number GE 2089-13 at Abease with three occupants.

He said the suspicious behaviour of the occupants prompted the police to subject them to a search, which led to the retrieval of a GS rifle concealed in a sack in the back seat of the vehicle.

The commander said the two suspects were arrested while the third accomplice identified as Budu took to his heels.

He said the two would be charged for possessing arms without lawful authority.

DCOP Yohuno said the two would be put before court soon while efforts are being made to arrest Budu.

In another development, a man, identified as Samuel Owusu, was lynched after snatching an unregistered Highlander vehicle from the owner, who was offering it for sale at Pokuase.

DCOP Yohuno said the suspect snatched the vehicle from his victim during testing and sped off.

He said they gave him a hot chase and apprehended him at Olebu and lynched him.

The commander said the police patrol rescued and took him to the Police Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
