The Ghana Police Service has apprehended two additional members of the Democracy Hub. The arrests occurred around 12:08 PM on September 23, 2024, which marks the third day of the ongoing #OccuppyJulorbiHouse protest.

According to a citinewsroom.com report, two men, situated at the pavement near the 37 Lorry Station for over an hour began raising their voices and flaunting their placards in the presence of the Police.

The men chanted “You can arrest more of us, but even if only two of us remain, we will stand up against illegal mining.”

This act of defiance by the men led to their arrest which now raises the total number of arrested protesters to 45.

The #OccuppyJulorbiHouse and #StopGalamsey demonstration organised by the Democracy Hub has seen an increased amount of violence among protesters and law enforcement.

The first edition of the protest, which occurred from December 1 to December 31, 2023 focused on the economic crises in Ghana but due to the sudden rise of galamsey activities and their effects on Ghana's water bodies, the protesters have once again taken to the streets to call out the government of Ghana to take action.

Although there have been several arrests and prohibitions, the protesters have remained relentless.
