Two passengers arrested for smoking wee

Cape Coast, Nov. 16, GNA- Two employees of the Bogoso Gold Mines in the Western Region, were on Tuesday arrested at the police checkpoint at Moree near Cape Coast for smoking Indian Hemp.

Two passengers who were also travelling from Accra to Bogoso with Kevin Doe and Desmond Akrong alerted the police that the suspects were smoking the dried leaves.

The accused persons were also allegedly possessing six wrappers of the hemp when a search was carried out on them. Chief Inspector Joseph Agyemang of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) briefed the GNA in Cape Coast on Tuesday about the arrest.

He said the vehicle on which the passengers were travelling broke down at the checkpoint and while the driver was repairing it, two other passengers spotted Doe and Akrong smoking the hemp and they alerted the police.

The Central Regional crime officer, Superintendent Reuben Laryea, who corroborated the story also told the GNA that the suspects had been detained and would be put before court.
